You can opt for a massage with or without oils on your scalp. Either way this is a great stress reliever and doesn’t involve removal of any clothing.
History and Origins
Indian Head Massage has its origins in the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda (Circa 1800BC) which was developed in the Himalayan region of the Indian subcontinent by Rishis (holy wise men).
The underlying philosophy was (and still is!) that health results from harmony within one’s whole self. The Rishis promoted living a Holistic way of life which incorporated exercise, meditation, diet and massage with aromatic herbal oils to create harmony within all aspects of a person’s life.
So what does it actually involve?
You will discover that the massage is not just of the head but of the following areas:
- Neck;
- Shoulders;
- Upper Arms;
- Back; and
- Head.
If you opt for the Ayurvedic Indian Head Massage then you will experience the use of nourishing oils on your scalp, applied to specific marma points, at which the hair is then twisted to increase the flow of cerebral spinal fluid.
Other marma points are massaged which help to improve alertness, balance the pituitary and pineal glands, balance the heart, eyes and lungs and nervous system to name but a few.
